For many years Spooner has been designing and manufacturing industrial ovens for the baking industry. Bespoke and made to our customers’ exact requirements Spooner has manufactured a range of different ovens with a variety of features and innovations. With changes across the food industry and increasing demand for larger throughputs, higher energy efficiency and quick controllable changeovers, Spooner decided to invest in developing an oven that incorporated it all.

Over the last 12 months Spooner has designed, built and tested a modular production scale oven at their facilities in Ilkley, West Yorkshire. With a dedicated project team from across different Spooner departments, the project has involved all from sales to research and development. The goal was to design and manufacture the next generation of Spooner oven that would improve energy efficiency, provide larger throughput and increase baker control whilst being easy to run, profitable and minimise installation.

Designed for bakers

The project team designed the oven with the baker in mind from the way the oven is controlled to maintenance and hygiene requirements. By spending time investigating and reviewing, the project team was able to come up with new ideas that would improve the overall experience of using a Spooner oven. The concept of designing the oven to be modular would be advantageous to global customers looking for shippable, pre-wired and tested oven that would reduce installation time.

In building a test version of the oven Spooner was able to test and accurately record the parameters within the zones giving data that could then be used to further develop the oven.

Now fully tried and tested, Spooner is ready to introduce their new generation of oven – modular with near perfect heat transfer profile across the width and length of the oven.
